Nonostante i progressi su alcuni fronti, però, sussiste una serie di problemi: tra i più inquietanti vi sono il cambiamento climatico, la perdita di biodiversità e habitat naturali, l'erosione e degradazione del suolo, i volumi crescenti di rifiuti, l'accumulo di sostanze chimiche nell'ambiente, l'inquinamento acustico e alcuni inquinanti atmosferici ed idrici.
Yet despite the improvements on some fronts, we continue to face a number of persistent problems. Of particular concern are climate change, the loss of biodiversity and natural habitats, soil loss and degradation, increasing waste volumes, the build-up of chemicals in the environment, noise and certain air and water pollutants.
